Original Cast interface, fixed to the reusable-rocket example. Illustrative local media; no live search or account connection.

The relevant parts /
one continuous Cast

Cast is not meant to be another list of whole videos and episodes. The idea is to answer a question by finding useful sections across sources, then linking those selections into a playlist you can watch or listen to continuously.

For a question about reusable rockets, that might mean a video explaining recovery, a podcast discussing refurbishment, then another video about flight frequency. Each section keeps its source and time range. The continuity comes from the queue—not from merging or rehosting the originals.

Find the source /
find the section

These are two different problems. A search hit can tell us which original is relevant; it does not, by itself, tell us where the useful passage begins or ends.

01

YouTube: a video is not yet a moment

The intended personal-search path starts with chosen channels and official search metadata, then checks whether the original can be played. A section needs separate timecoded evidence. A title match alone falls back to the full original; it must not invent a timestamp.

02

Podcasts: the episode and its time range

The current bounded experiment uses a named podcast episode, its original audio and a separately checked passage. It follows the same evidence rule as video: identify the source, support the start/end times, then play within that range. General podcast discovery is not yet a working service.

03

What we are actually testing

The retained two-source NASA proof matches query terms against descriptions of already-reviewed, timecoded passages. It is a small proof, not a live transcript index or an AI that can find every moment. Scaling discovery while keeping the ranges trustworthy is still an open part of the work.

Experimental / not general search

The playlist /
is the interface

Use the reusable-rocket Cast above: play through the original controls or choose a section in the right-side playlist.

The orange span on each card is the part we intend to play, positioned on the original source’s timeline. When the list loads, the lightning chain links those spans across YouTube and podcasts into one sequence.

At the end of a selected section, the queue hands off to the next source. The active card follows playback, while the original source time and selected duration remain visible.

Read the range /
follow the connection

01

Keep the original context

Publisher, title and source-time range stay attached to every selection. The orange bar shows what is kept; the rest of the timeline makes the selection’s position understandable.

02

Make the playlist visible

When the list loads, the ranges light up and the lightning path connects them in order. A video section, a podcast section and another video become one Cast, using the same queue interface as the product.

03

Continue, without starting over

Use the player or select a card. The player moves to that section, stops at its boundary and continues to the next source. This fixed topic uses local illustrative media, not live YouTube or podcast search.

Playback handoff

A familiar device /
a quieter interface

Cast uses the visual language of a radio: a recognizable device, a main playback area and controls that explain what happens next. Charcoal and warm-white surfaces keep the content legible; restrained orange identifies the active controls.

The design is developed through working interface candidates rather than a collection of disconnected screens. Home, topic navigation, queue and player are reviewed together, in Light and Dark, before refining playback states and the account journey.

Web interface /
original media

The interface uses HTML, CSS and JavaScript modules, served through an existing Cloudflare Worker. Keeping the product in the browser makes the player and queue available through one Web surface.

Playback uses original provider players and permitted audio, with each item loaded independently. Source restrictions still apply. Cast must show unavailable media honestly and must not turn a title match into a claim about an exact passage.

A private pilot /
a clear next step

Cast currently has a private Web pilot, Light and Dark UI, and a bounded NASA playback sample. Other sample topics are illustrative. This is not yet a public search service.

The next step is a complete owner journey: sign-in, remembered source choices and personal YouTube search. Broader discovery and an invited beta remain future work. Open Cast · private pilot ↗
